| REMEMBERING HURRICANE KATRINA - 10 Years Later Joey Gaffin, Coast Observer owner Cheli's boyfriend rode out hurricane katrina in their condo at the Villa's of Legacy behind the Legacy condo towers on the beach in Gulfport. He had no idea the destruction that was happening around him!! Throughout the morning he would spend much of the time riding out the hurricane in our shower with a pool raft as he thought any time the walls could come down and he would need a floating device. He would come out at times to check the condo, move furniture around put pans and trash cans to catch water coming in through the roof and then return to the shower to be safe. Many of these pictures were taken hours after hurricane katrina left our beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast torn and broken. Others were taken during the weeks that followed as we tried to make some sense of the disaster that would change our coast forever!! |
